Route of Appeal: Written Representations

This is generally regarded as the easiest, quickest and cheapest method of appeal.

An inspector will decide the appeal based on written submissions and a site visit only.

Generally, if you are appealing in relation to small scale development and changes of use this is the most suitable method.

Costs awards are available for written representation appeals, as with any other type of appeal.

Take a look at our timeline on a typical written representations process for more details regarding the timeframes of your appeal.

Please note: these timescales can be revised by the Planning Inspectorate and much depends on the complexity of the issues involved and the route of appeal chosen. We will provide further advice on the route of appeal once instructed as each case is different.
